Building a value tree

The whole machaneh is building a value tree together for the Melechet Yad Sa’adnah. Photo by Marlena Chertock.

Did you hear it through the grape vine (or the Mosh vine)? Mosh is building a value tree together in the Melechet Yad (arts and crafts) for one of the sa’adnaot this session. The tree is made out of chicken wire, paper mache, plaster, and paper.

The tree roots represent the five pillars of Habonim Dror: Judaism, social justice, socialism, labor Zionism, and hagshama (actualization of values). Chanichim will write words they associate with the pillars on the trunk. There is a hole in the trunk where chanichim can throw in wishes. The leaves will have chanichim’s personal stories.

Yesterday, the Nitzanim and Amelim painted the tree roots and made leaf stories or drawings about experiences they’ve had at machaneh.
